On March 18th, the Beijing office was proud to host a group of eight guests from China’s top-tier IT engineering media for our first annual FreeWheel Media Open Day. The goal of Media Open Day was to educate the media about FreeWheel’s growth and momentum, highlight the Beijing office as FreeWheel’s R&D hub, emphasize the strength and diversity of our over 200 best-in-class engineers, and explore partnership opportunities for 2016 and beyond.

Diane Yu, FreeWheel co-founder and CTO, started the day by personally welcoming every guest and sharing some background about how and why she set up our R&D hub in Beijing. She spoke candidly about how it had been her dream to build the best engineering team back in her native China, and with the support of her fellow FreeWheel co-founders, Doug Knopper and Jon Heller, her dream has now become a reality. Today, Beijing is FreeWheel’s largest office and home to 237 employees, most of whom serve our best-in-market Engineering division.

Li Rong, SVP, Engineering, delivered an interactive presentation to provide the participants with insights into FreeWheel’s thriving and growing business and the Beijing R&D hub, which drives innovation for the premium video economy. He talked about FreeWheel’s position as the market leader in our space, and how our team helps the largest players in the television industry generate revenue from their ad-supported content through a robust technology platform for ad management and monetization.

All attendees received a Media Kit which included the Q4 Video Monetization Report and a copy of our CMO Jack Rotherham’s recent interview with Doug Knopper on the origins of the company. We also shared a preview of the in-progress Chinese website scheduled to launch later this year—more on that to come at a later date.

After a guided tour of our beautiful new office space, built to reflect our unique culture which strikes the perfect balance between functional and fun, our guests could clearly understand why our people enjoy working at FreeWheel.

A glimpse of what it’s like to work in FreeWheel’s new Beijing office

We concluded the event with a luncheon to facilitate more in-depth discussions about FreeWheel and the market. Our goals for the day were met when our guests confirmed an interest in getting to know more about our team as well as the technical capabilities of our Beijing R&D center.
