Smart TV Strikes Out for Ad-Supported Video

“It is getting very hard to buy a television that doesn’t have Internet connectivity built in these days. Given that US consumers buy 40M new televisions each year, it should come as no surprise that over 50 million US consumers have a smart TV in their home. FutureSource Consulting says that over half of those homes have actually connected the smart TV to the Internet and use the smart features at least once a week. If smart TV manufacturers are to be believed, the number of people using them is higher than that!
However, new data from FreeWheel suggests these connected smart TVs are hardly being used to watch video at all.”
